Renaissance was a cultural movement that started in Italy and later celebrated in Europe. This era began around the 14th century through the 17th century (chacha.com).
Some viewed the renaissance as a bridge or continuity between the middle Ages and the Modern era. Many see this era as a cultural advance for Europe or a rebirth.
The Renaissance era was especially beneficial if you were an artist, due to the cultural and social changes that occurred. Art and literature was more recognized and more opened. People had more interest in learning, new discoveries; more and more people were interested in fine arts.
Since religion played a big role. This period allowed people to think as a individuals and not follow the norm. They began to question the teachings of the church. An artist was looked upon as a craftsman and viewed lower class citizen. I’m guessing this is due to the fact that they didn’t have a formal academic education.
This is the period when society the arts and literature as liberal arts.
